The construction of Dalaman airport started in 1976 and it was opened as an airport in 1981. It was upgraded to airport status in 1989 . The airport is spread over an area of 6.15 million m².
The completion of the new Dalaman International Terminal costs approximately 150,000,000 USD and it is the third largest terminal building in Turkey. 12 boarding gates, eight with closed air bridges. The apron was also redesigned, increasing space for remote stands. As a result, the airport has the capacity to handle up to 35 flights at any one time.
